Frequently asked questions

How can I prevent cavities and gingivitis?

Good oral hygiene is essential in maintaining oral health. Adequate brushing twice a day with the use of floss and/or interdental brushes significantly contributes to the reduction of cavities and inflammation of the gums. Of course, with regular check-ups at the dentist every 6 months.

How does cavity occur?

Cavity is caused by the action of acid produced by bacteria from accumulated plaque, resulting in the destruction of hard dental structures. It is important to detect it as early as possible so that it does not affect the dental nerve and thus cause greater consequences for the tooth.

Why do I need root canal filling?

When inflammation or necrosis of the dental nerve (pulp) occurs, it must be removed from the canal with special instruments and filled with a biologically acceptable material in order to preserve the tooth in the oral cavity.

I have a toothache when I eat sweet/cold food. Should I be worried?

Pain in the oral cavity can be of different intensity and character. Sensitivity to cold and sweet are indicators of cavity. Sharp pain when you eat or drink something cold can also be caused by exposed tooth necks caused by receding gums. Pulsating or treacherous pains and pain when biting are a sign of dental nerve inflammation. You should contact your dentist when the first symptoms appear.

Which paste and brush is the best choice for me?

It is recommended to use a softer toothbrush (brush fibres are more densely distributed) to make massaging and brushing the gums as pleasant as possible. You should try to put the tooth back in its place until you arrive at the dental office. If for some reason you are unable to do this, you should immediately place the tooth in milk or in the oral cavity under the tongue or next to the cheek and immediately go to your dentist.

What is the difference between crowns and veneers?

Crowns and veneers have one common role – they improve the aesthetics of the smile. But how do you know what to choose… Dental crowns serve to replace the entire tooth crown and are used in severely damaged, devitalized teeth, teeth with large fillings, but also as a superstructure on implants. Veneers, unlike crowns, are placed only on the outer surface of the teeth, most often on the front teeth, in order to improve their aesthetics.

Manual or electric toothbrush?

With the advancement of technology, the electric brush has become a serious competitor to the manual one, especially in the removal of dental deposits in hard-to-reach places of the oral cavity. When using either a manual or an electric toothbrush, we must keep in mind that there is a correct and incorrect way to brush your teeth. For people who do not have the dexterity to properly use a manual toothbrush, an electric one can greatly facilitate maintaining oral hygiene. Of course, electric toothbrushes are a much more expensive choice than a manual toothbrush. Each brush should be replaced every three months, including replacement attachments for electric brushes.

My dentist told me that I have all four wisdom teeth. Will I have to take them out?

If wisdom teeth do not cause problems in the oral cavity, it is not necessary to remove them. However, often due to the lack of space during growth, they remain partially covered by the gums. This makes hygiene in that area difficult and often leads to the accumulation of bacteria and inflammation – pericoronitis. There are also situations when, due to growth at a wrong angle, the wisdom teeth threaten the adjacent tooth or grow in the direction of the cheek, leading to biting of cheek mucosa. Due to the aforementioned problems, the patient’s wisdom teeth cause discomfort, pain, swelling, inability to fully open the mouth… In these cases, it is recommended to extract the wisdom teeth.
